The Successful Idiots Guide to Reading a Book (!)

While you may think you don't need advice about reading a book as its obvious, there is a way to read practical books to get more out of them and read them more quickly. Have you ever started a book, started 'wading through'  and not got past the first few chapters? Try this method:

1. First, if tempted, hold off buying a stack of books from the list choose just 2 or 3 to start (eg the gold highlighted ones - one from each section)
2. Read through the whole "Contents" list twice to get an idea of the whole book - this primes the mind and gives it a 'skeleton' to add to
3. In each chapter jump to the conclusion and read this first - this gives you the objective while reading the chapter.
4. Try speed-reading
5. Make a large bookmark from thin white card - say A5 size or A4 folded. As you read each chapter write down one or two 'learnings' or action points on the bookmark.
6. By the end of the book, you will have both an action list and a useful reminder record of the book to keep and refer back to. test
